Donation class to help Ukrainians displaced by Putin's war

Please join us for Tom's 12pm Pilates Progressions class on March 10, a 100% donation class to benefit the International Rescue Committee (IRC). Center of Balance will donate 100% of the money collected for class — plus any additional contributions — to help IRC provide critical aid to Ukrainians displaced by Russia's invasion of their sovereign nation.

On February 24, President Putin deployed his Russian military into Ukraine, its neighbor in Eastern Europe. Bombs and shelling have continued to escalate, deliberately targeting homes and civilian infrastructure. More than 1 million people have now fled across borders to seek safety in what could become the worst humanitarian crisis Europe has seen in decades.

As attacks continue to target civilians, many more Ukrainians are being displaced from their homes, both within their country and across borders. The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations has warned that the Russian invasion could displace up to 5 million people.

Watch Kevin Bowen's 3/4 interview with Katya Smirnova, Pilates teacher and now a Ukrainian refugee who shares her personal story and perspective on what's happening in Ukraine now.

About the International Rescue Committee
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic well being, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is at work in over 40 countries and 26 U.S. cities helping people to survive, reclaim control of their future and strengthen their communities.

The IRC is on the ground in Poland, and working with local partners in both Poland and Ukraine. They are providing essential items to people displaced from Ukraine, including blankets, warm clothes, cookstoves, groceries, basic supplies, and - where possible - cash.

Through partners, the IRC is also providing new arrivals with information about asylum and available services using an existing hotline, offer legal counseling and psychological support, and connect them to other services including through social workers, interpreters, and cultural assistants.
