Here are some helpful guidelines to make your next visit to Center of Balance a positive and enriching one:
Arrival & Registration
Please arrive to the studio 10 - 15 minutes early to register, pay and get ready for your session. Your practice begins when you arrive at Center of Balance, so please remove your shoes & turn off your cell phone.
Regularity of Practice
To experience the optimal benefits of a movement practice, it's important to commit yourself regularly! We recommend a minimum of 2 - 3 times per week, more if you can make the time. Whether in a private session, equipment group, mat class, or at home, practicing Pilates and/or yoga on a consistent basis will accelerate your learning and greatly enhance your overall health.
Payment and Expirations
- Payment is due on or before the same day of a session or class. You can pay online - see the links on our website for creating an online account. Or you can pay at the studio. We accept cash, checks and all major Credit Cards except Amex.
- Passes for classes and sessions are not transferable to other students.
- Mat class passes expire in 180 days, unless otherwise stated. Private and group passes expire in 1 year. Practice regularly so your pass doesn't expire!
- Unused private and group sessions that have not expired may be refunded minus a $40 admin fee. Partially-used mat class passes are not refundable.
- Returned checks — There will be a $40 charge for all returned checks.
- Prices and policies are subject to change without notice.
24 Hour Cancellation
Please understand that for all scheduled appointments, we require a minimum of 24 hours notice to cancel or there will be a full service charge, unless we can fill your space. We make every effort to fill the vacant spot as best we can by calling clients and reviewing waitlists, but it is not always possible in short time.
Mat Classes
All mat classes are open to the public on a drop-in basis. Open classes do not require prior experience — though we highly recommend private sessions for you to better understand the movements and proper body alignment and position — beginners through advanced are always welcomed! You'll be given modification of exercises if needed so you can progress at your own pace.
For people with injuries or beginners with little movement experience, we strongly recommend taking a private session for assessment, guidance and learning. A Welcome Package is a great way to get started! You will work with our experienced instructors to develop a personal program to meet your specific goals, issues and needs.
Attire
Please wear athletic clothing you can move in that is flexible and non-binding, such as shorts, T-shirts, tights and leotards. Grip socks are needed. We stock a large variety in our store for your convenience.
Mats and Props
We have public mats and props available for your use during class at Center of Balance. However, we recommend that you purchase your own class mat for personal hygiene and to support your regularity of practice. The Center of Balance Store carries a selection of props, clothing, and more.
Perfumes and Colognes
Please refrain from wearing perfumes and colognes during class.
Food
Yoga postures and Pilates exercises should be performed on an empty stomach. Ideally, wait two to three hours after a large meal, one to two hours after a light snack.
Health Conditions
Please consult your physician before starting any new exercise regime, especially if you have health issues. Inform the instructor of any serious health conditions such as neck, back or joint injuries, heart disease, high blood pressure, recent surgery, osteoporosis or pregnancy.
Medications
Do not practice yoga or Pilates while under the influence of alcohol or drugs (including prescribed drugs) that may alter your ability to judge your physical capabilities.
Age Requirement
Students under the age of 16 may attend class only with prior instructor approval. In our experience, we have found younger students benefit the most in a one-on-one setting for focus and individualized attention.
